Recap: 'Saturday Night Live' – Christoph Waltz and Alabama Shakes

Let’s face it, “Saturday Night Live” fans: 2013 hasn’t been kind to the show. We’ve had three not-really-that-good-at-all shows thus far, with the pieces never really coming together to produce a solid, nevermind stand-out, episode. Will Christoph Waltz be the unlikely savior? I say “unlikely” not because he isn’t talented, but because I’m sure there are a lot of people tuning in tonight. Those reading this recap will probably know of his recent roles in “Inglorious Basterds” and “Django Unchained”, but the average viewer more familiar with the oeuvre of last week’s host Justin Bieber? Hard to say.   Then again, »

Maya Rudolph Pregnant With 4th Child: Up All Night, Indeed!

Maya Rudolph is long past being a Bridesmaid, she's going to a mom again! The funnylady is reportedly pregnant with her fourth child by writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson, according to The Hollywood Reporter. So the Up All Nightactress is a sure bet to be up all night in real life when the new baby joins their three other kids Pearl, 7, Lucille, 3, and Jack, only 19 months. Word of Maya's pregnancy came out after sources say she informed NBC she's expecting. Ironically, the happy family news comes with the network contemplating ending Rudolph's mom-centric sitcom after series star Christina Applegate's exit and a plans for a one-episode "reboot" of the show reportedly »

Beyoncé's Life Is But a Dream: The Best Moments

I am ... still singing! Beyoncé's HBO documentary, Life Is But a Dream, aired Saturday night and it was a 90-minute whirlwind of music, dance and emotion. And though the singer, 31, has been everywhere recently (the Inauguration, the Super Bowl halftime show, Oprah's Next Chapter), the film was full of new and exciting moments. Here are my favorites: Baby Bey: A home movie of Beyoncé as a little girl playing with bees made my jaw drop. The scene seems to prove what her fans believe: that she was born to be a superstar known as Queen B. I also loved »

'SNL' Mocks Carnival Cruise in Cold Open

Saturday Night Live tackled the Carnival Cruise disaster in its cold open, showing two crew members (played by Jason Sudeikis and Cecily Strong) trying to entertain the ill-fated passengers of the ship that became stranded for days after a small fire. Sudeikis’ character praises the passengers, saying they looked pretty great for people who haven’t showered in four days. Then, in rather ballsy move, the SNL sketch included a joke referencing the alleged murder of Olympian Oscar Pistorius’ girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. 'Argo,' 'Silver Linings,' 'Brave' and 'Breaking Bad' win Ace Eddie Awards

It's been reiterated for months now that "Argo" and "Silver Linings Playbook" are the two films that are well-liked across the board in the Academy and the industry at large. Well, tonight, both films have triumphed at the America Cinema Editors's Ace Eddie Awards in the dramatic and comedic categories. Neither is really a shock. "Argo" is the frontrunner to win the Oscar for editing and Best Picture, while "Silver Linings Playbook" surprised many by landing an Oscar nomination for editing. It beat out "Les Misérables" here, which wasn't nominated for an Oscar and was probably the only competition otherwise.

Music Power Rankings: Mumford & Sons, Adele and Justin Timberlake top the list

1. Mumford & Sons: The British quartet accomplishes something the likes of Bruce Springsteen, the Beach Boys and R.E.M. have never done by winning the Grammy for album of the year. In doing so, “Babel” towers over all over albums next week on the Billboard 200. 2. Adele: She doesn’t even have to put out new music to win a Grammy... or any award. We just want her to promise she’ll attend and give a hilariously candid acceptance speech. 3. Justin Timberlake: After a six year absence, he and Jay-z will tour stadiums this summer. That’s a lot of sexy. 4.

Cinema Editors Cut to the Chase: It's 'Argo,' Again - and 'Silver Linings Playbook,' Too

"Argo" racked up yet another guild victory on Saturday night, taking home the American Cinema Editors' Ace Eddie Award for Best Edited Feature (Dramatic). "Silver Linings Playbook" won the award for Best Edited Feature (Comedy or Musical). The award is an unusually reliable predictor of the film-editing Oscar, and adds to a substantial guild-awards haul for "Argo" that also includes honors from the Producers Guild, Directors Guild and Screen Actors Guild. The Writers Guild announces its winners on Sunday. "Silver Linings Playbook" has less overall success this awards season, but has dominated »

'Les Misérables,' 'Brave,' 'Homeland' sound right to Cinema Audio Society

Tom Hooper's musical adaptation "Les Misérables" picked up its first industry award win of the season (save the SAG prize to Anne Hathaway) tonight. It won the prize for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for live action motion pictures at the 49th annual Cinema Audio Society Awards. Production mixer Simon Hayes, re-recording mixers Andy Nelson and Mark Peterson, scoring mixer Jonathan Allen, Adr mixer Robert Edwards and foley mixer Pete Smith all shared in the prize, though it's just Hayes, Nelson and Paterson who are included in the film's Oscar nomination for Best Sound Mixing. Which, speaking of the golden guy.

'Argo' and 'Silver Linings Playbook' win Ace Eddie Awards

"Argo" and "Silver Linings Playbook" won the America Cinema Editors' Ace Eddie Awards in the drama and comedy categories. While both films are nominated for best editing at the Oscars, the edge usually goes to the drama, of course, so this guild victory further establishes "Argo" as the academy frontrunner. That, in turn, bolsters its hope of winning the top Oscar since the awards for Best Editing and Picture seems to be reliably and mysteriously linked. -Insertgroups:8- Following up past victories at the PGA, DGA and Ida, "Searching for Sugerman" took Best Documentary and "Brave' demolished "Wreck-It Ralph" for Best Animated Feature Film. 'Les Miz' Is Music to the Ears of the Cinema Audio Society

"Les Miserables" has been named the best work of 2012 by the Cinema Audio Society, a non-profit organization that honors the art of sound mixing in film and television. The film, for which director Tom Hooper recorded his actors singing live on the set, was considered the favorite for the Cas Award and for the sound-mixing Oscar. In addition to working with vocal tracks recorded in difficult circumstances, its mixers had to contend with prominent orchestral music throughout the film's near three-hour running time. 'Les Miserables' wins Cinema Audio Society Award

"Les Miserables" won the prize for Best Sound Mixing bestowed by the Cinema Audio Society. After previously snagging the equivalent award last week at BAFTA, it seems like a shoo-in to reap the Oscar next, especially given voters' notorious love of musicals in that category. Forest Whitaker Claims NYC Deli Falsely Accused Him of Shoplifting

Forest Whitaker was not feeling the love at an NYC deli the day after Valentine's Day. The Oscar-winning actor was reportedly frisked and searched at Milano Market Friday. As he was making his way out of the establishment, Whitaker's rep told E! News, he was stopped by an employee.  According to TMZ, the employee patted Whitaker down and found nothing on him. "This was an upsetting incident given the fact that Forest did nothing more than walk into deli," Whitaker's rep told E! News. "What is most unfortunate about this situation is the inappropriate way store employees are treating patrons of their establishment. Frisking individuals without proof/evidence is a violation of »

Although Grant has never confirmed their relationship, the "Love Actually" star is reportedly dating Tinglan Hong, who's the mother of his newborn baby boy and his daughter Tabitha, born in Sept. 2011. Hong is 19 years his junior.
Grant was unsure whether or not he was fond of fatherhood after he welcomed his little girl, but in an interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in April, the actor backtracked, admitting he adores being a dad.
“Everyone was right all these years, saying, ‘Hugh, why don’t you have some children? It changes your life,’" he told Ellen DeGeneres.

Sarah Michelle Gellar to Star Opposite Robin Williams in New Comedy

Even though her fun-loving housewife pilot for 20th Century Fox was nixed, Deadline reports that the studio wanted to keep Sarah Michelle Gellar around. They've cast her as Robin Williams's daughter in a new CBS comedy pilot called Crazy Ones. All we know about the show so far is that it's written and produced by Ally McBeal creator David E. 'Die Hard,' 'Safe Haven' in Close Presidents Day Race

A Good Day to Die Hard narrowly took first place at the beginning of Presidents Day weekend, though overperforming Nicholas Sparks adaptation Safe Havenwasn't far behind. Escape From Planet Earth also had a solid start, while Beautiful Creatures missed the Top Five. The fifth Die Hard movie took in $7.2 million on Friday; add in its $8.2 million from Valentine's Day, and the movie has so far earned $15.4 million. In comparison, Live Free or Die Hard grossed $15 million through its first two days. For its five-day opening, A Good Day to Die Hard will likely wind up under $40 million, which is slightly disappointing given the franchise's strong history and the ubiquitous marketing effort.Safe Haven was a close second on Friday with $7.15 million*it opened ahead of Die Hard on Valentine's Day, though, and has a two-day lead with $16 million. For the five-day frame, the movie should earn over $30 million.

Oscar nominee John Kahrs on being frontrunner for animated short 'Paperman'

John Kahrs, director of the Oscar-nominated Animated Short “Paperman,” credits his years at Pixar as the perfect training ground to becoming a director. “I was working on 'Toy Story 2' (1999), watching Lee Unkrich, who was an editor at the time, cutting it together,” says Kahrs. “His focus on cutting, composition, and precision was like a film school class. I learned how something that started from such humble beginnings could become something so special.” “Paperman” tells the story of two people who have a chance encounter in New York City, and how paper airplanes lead to their falling in love. “It goes back to when I lived in New York and was surrounded by people but was also so alone,” explains the director. “Sometimes you’d make a random connection and wonder what the rest of your life would be like with this person. I thought, what if two »

Robin Roberts: My Dark Days, My Brave Fight

Sitting in a white fluffy bathrobe in front of her bathroom mirror, Robin Roberts - still recuperating from a bone marrow transplant just five months earlier - seems at ease with her striking reflection. Just as she was after battling breast cancer in 2007, Roberts is once again bald, but this time she's skipping the wig. "Whatever," the Good Morning America anchor says with a shrug. "I'm thankful I have a pretty-good-shaped head." And the 30 lbs. she's lost from her 5'10" frame during her month-long hospital stay? "It's been hard to put back on, a first in my life," she admits.

Best Looks of the Week: Jessica Chastain & Marion Cotillard Pop in Bold Colors

With the 2013 BAFTA Awards and Grammy Awards taking place this past week, we saw some pretty amazing dresses on our favorite stars. But certain ladies stood out among the sea of gowns on the red carpet thanks to unapologetically lively hues. The skies may have been gray at the BAFTA Awards, but Marion Cotillard had a sunny style moment in a bright yellow Christian Dior design, while fellow attendee Jessica Chastain looked absolutely stunning in a bold blue Roland Mouret gown.  Rihanna popped on the Grammys red carpet in a ravishing red Azzedine Alaia gown with sexy sheer paneling, while Katy Perry hit the Recording Academy's MusiCares Person Of The Year Gala in an equally »

Fugitive Ex-Cop Christopher Dorner May Have Committed Suicide

Ex-lapd Officer Christopher Dorner pledged to kill a lot of cops in his revenge-fueled killing spree, but once he was surrounded on Tuesday, Dorner apparently turned one of his many weapons on himself - ending one of Southern California's largest-ever manhunts with a self-inflicted gunshot. San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon told reporters Friday evening that Dorner died from "a single gunshot wound to the head." This supports early media reports that officers in a shootout last week with Dorner (which left one deputy dead) said they stopped being fired upon after hearing a single gunshot from inside the house where Dorner sought refuge. »

Oscar Guide 2013: Best Writing - Original Screenplay

(Welcome to the Oscar Guide, your chaperone through the Academy’s 24 categories awarding excellence in film. A new installment will hit every weekday in the run-up to the Oscars on February 24, with the Best Picture finale on Friday, February 22.) Best Original Screenplay is perhaps my favorite of all Oscar categories, and I know I'm not alone in that. So often it has been a sanctuary for adventurous, important and, yes, original films that are just a little too fresh to triumph in the top categories: it's thanks to this award, after all, that the likes of "Pulp Fiction," "Eternal

Krysten Ritter Got a New Job

It's only been a few weeks since ABC canceled Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23, and Krysten Ritter has already found a new home. THR reports that she'll be starring in NBC's Assistance, a sitcom adaptation of a play byBachelorette screenwriter Leslye Headland. This time, Ritter will play a more traditional working girl: Nora, who — as the title suggests — makes a living as an assistant to a demanding entertainment industry boss. So, now that Ritter is set up, can everyone please devote their energy to finding a new gig for James Van Der Beek? We really don't want to see him disappear again.

When it comes to Hollywood's hottest couples, love isn't always in the air (even on Valentine's Day). While star lovers like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, andKaty Perry and John Mayer enjoyed romantic evenings out on the town on Feb.14, there appeared to be trouble in paradise for Chris Brown and Rihanna, who avoided each other at a club that night after canoodling earlier in the week at the Grammys.  And those weren't the only celebs who topped our galleries this week. Blue Ivy Looks Just Like Dad Jay-z in New Photo

Daddy's little girl, indeed! A new photo of Beyoncé and Jay-z's 1-year-old daughter Blue Ivy - apparently leaked from the songstress's upcoming HBO documentary - shows the proud mama holding up her little girl, who bears a striking resemblance to her famous papa. "When I wake up in the morning, the best thing in the world is seeing her face," the pop star said earlier this month. "She's starting to talk. It's just such a beautiful time in my life to have a child and every day see something new and see her learn something new.

TV Ratings: 'Shark Tank,' 'Blue Bloods' lead Friday, while 'Touch' drops below 'Fringe' levels

Fast National ratings for Friday, February 15, 2013.   Despite the dismal-and-dropping numbers for "The Job," CBS was still able to hold on for its normal overall Friday win, while "Shark Tank" kept ABC in its usual place in first among young viewers.   Meanwhile, it was another strong-ish week for NBC's news-driven Friday lineup and another dismal week for Fox's "Touch," which saw its numbers fall to sub-"Fringe" levels in only its second week back.   Finally, if you want a little numerical amusement: The CW aired the indie romantic-dramedy "Paper Heart" instead of "Nikita" and a drama encore.

Tech Support: Thomas Newman on 'Skyfall' and the everyday challenges of a film composer

Film music composer Thomas Newman landed his 11th Oscar nomination to date last month, for his original contributions to "Skyfall." It's the latest in a long line of Academy mentions both in the song and score categories for two decades for him, but despite the strong showing, he has yet to wrangle one of the trophies for himself. Last weekend he won his second BAFTA Award to date (on just three nominations from the group throughout his career). And, along with "Skyfall" colleague Roger Deakins, he is putting a little bit of pressure on the presumed frontrunners in his category.

'Good Day to Die Hard' Seizes Top Spot at Box Office but 'Safe Haven' Stays Strong

"A Good Day to Die Hard" took over the lead at the President's Day weekend box office with an estimated $7.3 million take Friday. That lifted it past No. 2 "Safe Haven" and put it on pace for a five-day total of around $36 million. That means Fox's R-rated Bruce Willis action film, the fifth entry in the franchise and the first since 2007, is running a little below studio expectations and well off the most bullish analysts' projections, which were as high as $50 million for the five days.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Headed Back to TV—With Robin Williams!

Dare we say that we're crazy for this pairing? Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar have been cast as father and daughter in Crazy Ones, a single-camera workplace sitcom being devloped for CBS, according to TVGuide.com. And, better yet, it's a David E. Kelley-produced workplace sitcom! The Ally McBealand Boston Legal creator (and master of workplace situation anything) is reportedly teaming with frequent producing partner Bill D'Elia and Arrested Development coexecutive producer Dean Lorey on the pilot—the quality of which we are now holding out so much hope for. What a crazy Oscar race! 4 films jockeyed for lead

Usually, the Oscar race for Best Picture involves two films jockeying for the lead -- like "The King's Speech" vs. "The Social Network" (2010) or "The Hurt Locker" vs. "Avatar" (2009). However, this derby season has been extraordinary -- four films have moved in and out of the front position six times. "Silver Linings Playbook" initially broke out of the pack at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September, then "Les Miserables" leapt ahead in mid-October after word spread that audiences went wild for it at a secret test screening in Hollywood. A week later, "Argo" opened and quickly grabbed the lead thanks to boffo b.o. and huzzahs from film critics -- and there it remained for more than a month. Related: See latest predictions of 25 top Oscarologists That is, up until "Les Miserables" was finally shown to legions of Hollywood industry insiders, who greeted it with cheers,

Mark Kamins, Madonna's Ex-Boyfriend, Pioneering DJ-Producer Who Helped Launch Her Career, Dies

Pioneering DJ and producer Mark Kamins, who was instrumental in facilitating the signing of Madonna to Sire Records in 1982, has died. According to BlackBook, on Feb. 14, he suffered “a massive coronary” in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he has been teaching. Word spread on Facebook, where many friends of the Downtown New York City scenester posted remembrances. The particular poignancy of his passing is surely the marking of the chronology of those connected to the incipient development of the biggest musical star of our time -- the mortality surrounding the cultural immortal that is the Queen of Pop.

Facebook Hacked in 'Sophisticated Attack'

Facebook said on Friday that it was the subject of a "sophisticated attack" from hackers last month, but no user data was compromised. Employees at the social network visited an infected site and its servers downloaded malicious software, or malware, from the mobile developer site. "As soon as we discovered the presence of the malware, we remediated all infected machines, informed law enforcement, and began a significant investigation that continues to this day," the company said in a blog post Friday. "Facebook was not alone in this attack. It is clear that »

Harry Styles was single and ready to mingle on Valentine's Day. Sarah Michelle Gellar to Star in Robin Williams' CBS Comedy 'Crazy Ones'
