DVF Names 2013’s Most Inspirational Women


DIANE VON FURSTENBERG  five inspirational women at last night's annual DVF Awards in New York. The event - now in its fourth year - celebrates women who have demonstrated "leadership, strength and courage in their respective fields".
As previously announced, Natalia Vodianova collected the Inspiration Award for her work as founder and president of her charity, the Naked Heart Foundation - which aims to provide a safe and environment for Russian children.
The Vital Voices Global Partnership prizes went to Andeisha Farid, founder of Afghan Child Education and Caring Organization (AFCECO), and Sunitha Krishnan from Prajwala, an organisation that rescues women and children from brothels and offers quality education to the children of prostitutes.
Lifetime Leadership Award honour was given to US television presenter Robin Roberts who have shown "extraordinary grace and courage" in overcoming breast cancer and a rare blood disorder called myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). A press release described how the ABC anchor "exemplifies the characteristics closest to the heart of Ms. von Furstenberg, dedicating her life and body of work to instilling leadership and strength within other women".
The People's Voice accolade went to Tammy Tibbetts, who founded First - a charity that sponsors' girls' education and encourages them to be the first in their families to graduate the school. The category is chosen by the public from a shortlist of nominees committed to supporting women's causes.
