LULU GUINNESS launches her second collection forUniqlo today, a range of T-shirts - each bearing the witty and playful prints for which the British designer is known for.
"I was very excited to be given the opportunity to design another collection for Uniqlo following the success of last year, so I wanted to make sure that the T-shirts were different," Guinness told us. "I worked very hard with the Uniqlo design team in Japan and I am very pleased with the Peter Pan collars and oversized polka dots."
The offering was inspired by the colour palette of Guinness' spring/summer 2013 mainline collection, with cobalt blue and monochrome highlighted by red lip motifs. The label's signature vintage aesthetic is given a youthful graphic twist, with polka dot, striped and eyelash prints. Each T-shirt is priced at £14.90.
"I love the young element and the price of course - it enables new customers to buy into the Lulu Guinness brand," said Guinness. "My favourite piece from the collection is the white with black polka dot T-shirt with Peter Pan collar. I like the shape and design and the fact that you can dress it up with a skirt and heels or down with jeans. Collars are one of my style favourites, so I was so pleased to have these on my designs."
Guinness launched her first collection for Uniqlo in April 2012, which proved a huge success with shoppers - selling out in just two weeks. The London-based designer believes that her label is perfectly suited to the high street chain.
"I love the simplicity of Uniqlo products," she said. "They are fantastic for basics and I recently got a selection of Heattech long sleeve tops. Uniqlo always do intelligent collaborations with designers - I loved the Celia Birtwell prints, for example. I also am fascinated by the technology fabric of Uniqlo products, they truly are innovators.
