GUCCI has made an offer to buy out Italian ceramics and tableware company, Richard Ginori. The fashion house has reportedly made an offer of €13 million (£11 million), and plans to launch its own line of luxury tableware.
Richard Ginori was declared bankrupt in January, with Gucci believed to be the only interested buyer. According to WWD, the offer has already been accepted by a state court - but others can be submitted via a public auction until April 22.
The ceramics company was founded in 1735 and specialises in handcrafted porcelain crockery, cutlery and glassware. A spokesperson for Gucci confirmed that it planned to support the company "with the goal to protect and re-launch a historical Florentine brand, synonymous with quality and craftsmanship", while also utilising the company's expertise in order to help launch their own line. Gucci has also pledged to keep 230 employees.
