The G.I. Joe franchise is getting the trilogy treatment, Variety reported Monday. Paramount, however, had no official comment on any plans for a third film.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation — the second installment in the successful franchise — came out of the gates strong this past weekend, earning an estimated $41.2 million domestically, and $80.3 million in foreign box office thanks in part to the 3D up charge. In its first weekend alone, the film is almost halfway to the first movie’s $302 million worldwide earnings, so it’s easy to see why the studio might be eager to immediately green light a third film.
But, with no official announcement from Paramount yet, it is probably best to hold tight as they decide what exactly they’d like to do with the franchise, and who would direct and star in a follow-up. Or, if you’re a struggling actor, now’s as good a time as any to start hitting the gym. Roadblock wasn’t built in a day
