COOL, contemporary and feminine have become bywords for 3.1 Phillip Lim, the Thai-born designer who, by way of California, ended up charming New York with his understated sense of luxury and fashionable versatility.
He put them into action to great effect this afternoon. It has to be said that separates are the foundation of any wardrobe and Lim took these and ran with them, transforming them into colour blocks and thus a more paint-by-numbers sense of style - the opening look a pink coat, with camel, oatmeal and orange beneath.
It was a configuration of great shapes, pieces and style: jackets and coats of excellent statement substance to wader-sandal hybrids, which wandered down the catwalk with every look.
There was a punk element via vampy lips, multiple-studded earrings and customised denim that also worked to indulge in an Americana moment. As did round sunglasses that suggested more than a moment of fun.
Mannish tailoring was accompanied by across-the-body bags (seriously cool and covetable for next season), and long-length gilets over sweatshirts. There were kilt skirts - we had also seen them at Belstaff earlier in the day - and there were patchwork jeans to continue this punk vibe.
Metallic shades ruled throughout, as did the coats which were sure-fire winners. To end, Lim sent his leaders of the pack out en masse - and frankly there's no messing with them, not that we'd want to anyway.
